Based on Lakeway, TX, somewhere about 20 miles northwest of Austin, this is an iconic property. The house resembles a perfect sand dollar, at least when viewed aerially.
The House Was Built In 1979
Sand Dollar House dates back to 1979 when the designer, a protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright, came up with such a unique design when the Guggenheim museum construction dates back to the 1950s in NYC. His name was John Covert Watson, who excelled in this typical organic architectural design. The construction was over in 1979. Watson, an architect himself, studied a great deal about the structures and designs of that era. If you look at the home’s organic design, you can gauge the Guggenheim influences that are evident throughout.
But if you thought John was the mastermind behind the external marvel that the house is, you’re mistaken. Perched on the cliff on top of a wooded bluff that overlooks the breathtakingly beautiful Lake Travis, along the Colorado River; Watson had also designed the circular-shaped three bedrooms. All of them contain a round top, curved walls, and interiors sculpted intricately. The design has been inspired by seashells, too, along with the sand dollar- as evident from its very look.
