A routine day for North Canton police took an unexpected turn when officers responded to a deer trapped in a backyard hammock. The unusual call brought Officers Taylor, Carrel, and Lewis to the scene, where they worked with a local Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) officer.
The North Canton Police Department said in a Facebook post that officers have handled deer stuck in fences and ponds over the years. However, this marked the department’s first reported rescue involving a hammock.
The officers carefully freed the buck from the fabric. Fortunately, the animal did not suffer any injuries during the incident.
After the rescue, the buck was able to return to the area safely. The department described the incident on social media as an “unusual rescue with a happy ending.”
While deer can become trapped in common obstacles such as fences, this case showed how unexpected backyard items can also create hazards for wildlife. Quick assistance helped the buck get free and continue on its way without harm.
