A floor cleaner at the 2026 Commonwealth Games has become one of the most talked-about figures of the event after turning a routine work shift into a memorable dance performance. CJ Miller, a professional dancer from Scotland, gained worldwide attention after videos of him dancing with a mop inside Glasgow’s OVO Hydro arena spread across social media.
Miller was working as a floor cleaner during the netball events at the Commonwealth Games when he decided to add his style to the job. The dancer performed energetic moves, including the worm and impressive splits, while cleaning the venue floor.
His performances featured songs such as Queen’s 1984 hit “I Want to Break Free” and Cameo’s 1986 funk track “Candy.” The crowd responded with cheers as Miller completed his routine, then calmly returned to cleaning as if nothing unusual had happened.
The official 2026 Commonwealth Games Facebook account shared a video of the performance with the caption, “When your moment comes, you take it,” along with a dancing man emoji. The post helped introduce Miller’s “Mop Man” nickname to a much larger audience.

Although many viewers first discovered Miller as a cleaner with impressive moves, he already had a strong connection to the performing arts. He is a professional dancer and the founder of the Fifth Dimension Initiative, which provides workshops for dance schools and training programs.
Miller has also worked as a choreographer, including choreographing “A Chorus Line” at Scotland’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He is scheduled to perform in the show himself on Aug. 23.
Speaking with the Australian breakfast television program Sunrise on Monday, July 27, Miller explained why he chose to bring extra energy to his work.
“Well, you know what, I was hired to do a job, and I thought, ‘You know what, we’ll do it full send. We’ll send it full,’” Miller said, describing his decision to give his complete effort during the performance.
When Sunrise reporter Katie Brown compared his style to Cardi B, Miller joked, “That’s my inspiration, actually. I looked at it, and I thought, “That’s exactly what the Commonwealth needs, Cardi B. That’s the one.”
Unexpected Attention From Around the World

Miller later told PEOPLE that the sudden popularity had been surprising, describing the experience as a “surreal 24 hours.” Despite being comfortable on stage, he shared that he is more introverted in everyday life.
“Although it is my job to dance, sing, and choreograph… I am actually more introverted in my day-to-day life,” Miller said. He also mentioned that his husband is usually the more outgoing one, which made the online reaction even more unexpected.
The viral moment brought many positive reactions from viewers. Some fans joked that “Mop Dance Guy” deserved a political promotion, while others said he should return for future Commonwealth Games events.
Another viewer suggested that Queen’s late frontman, Freddie Mercury, would have enjoyed seeing “I Want to Break Free” used for such a lively performance.
CJ Miller’s dance performance showed how unexpected moments can become highlights of major events. His combination of professional talent, humor, and a simple workplace routine created a memorable scene that connected with viewers around the world.
The “Mop Man” moment became a reminder that entertainment can appear in the most ordinary places.
